Speaking of my son, he came home from school the other day with a new song in his head. He was sitting at the kitchen table coloring, and all of a sudden started singing something to the affect of "I like your booty...booty. You have a big booty...booty." I remember I was cutting some fruit at the counter, and I just stopped mid-slice and listened intently.
"Um...where did you learn that interesting song."
"At school. (So-and-so) was singing it." Pause. "Do you like it?"
Here's the tricky part: If I say "no", then he'll ask "why". I'll have to explain what "booty" is. He'll have a new word that he'll want to show off to EVERYONE. I'll be embarrassed...
Or
If I say "yes", then he'll keep singing it. Then, he'll ask -"what's a booty?" I'll have to explain what it is...blah blah blah...new word...embarrassed...blah blah
So, I just say "Hey, would you like some fruit? It's really good." Um... "Hey, guess what funny thing happened today?" (Think of ANYTHING.) And I just keep talking until it's completely forgotten.
Since the incident was over a week ago, I think I bought myself a little time.

Hi Melanie,
So funny! Well, not so much for you, but a funny story. How old is your son? Sorry, this is my first time here.
Wendi
Hi! Thanks, Wendy -I'm so happy to get your comment! My son is 6 and he's a real character. I never know what's going to come out of his mouth. :-)
